ABOUT BERGEN BIG BAND

Bergen Big Band (BBB) was established in 1991 but its roots go back to the 70s. BBB was founded by late saxophonist Olav Dale, who was the band's musical director and driving force until 2014. The band wishes to preserve Olav's ideals by staying innovative and relevant, whilst still keeping the big band history and tradition close to heart.

As one of Norway's leading professional big bands, the band strives to continuously revitalize and develop their artistic profile by collaborating with some of the world's leading composers and jazz artists. BBB wishes to contribute to new music being composed for big band by commissioning new works from exciting voices, both from within and outside the band. Bergen Big Band also wishes to give back something to the community by arranging workshops and seminars for young promising talents in our region. Bergen Big Band has released 7 albums, and has in the last 30 years performed at some of the world´s biggest jazz festivals.

The album can be heard live on Sildajazz (August 9th), Oslo Jazz Festival (August 15th), Bergen Jazzforum (November 2nd) and London Jazz Festival (November 15th).

Excerpts from the Bergen Jazzforum concert at Sardinen (USF Verftet) where Bergen Big Band and John Surman performed the "Another Sky"-material for the first time in Norway. The album was recorded in Bergen the following days and will be released in August 2014.
